Medford is back

I am happy that Medford is back home with me. After I was in a bad accident sunday (no medford was not in the car) he went to stay with my leader so I could rest and try to recover. I was told medford had a great time with my leader's puppy in training golden Preston. As much as I needed and enjoyed the short break it is nice to have my boy back. As soon as he saw me he gave me lots of kisses, and he got lots of hugs and kisses.

Medford meets Santa

Last saturday was a very eventful day. The day started out with some of the puppy raisers doing a presentation at a church. All the dogs did great. After the presentation we had our meeting at fashion fair mall. There we walked the dogs around and did some obedience. Medford did great except for when we took him to see one of the fountains he tried to jump in. After the meeting I relieved Medford and went back in the mall. Medford got to lay down while I ate lunch. After lunch I took him over to see Santa. Medford was very excited when he saw Santa. His tail started wagging and his ears perked up. When we went up to meet Santa Medford lost it for a moment and started trying to give Santa kisses. Then Medford decided to he liked Santa's beard and tried to chew on his beard. Luckly Santa got a good laugh out of it. After they started squeeking a squeeky toy medford calmed down and posed for the camera. The picture turned out cute.

train trip

This past saturday my Fresno Guide Dog group took a trip to Hanford. We rode the Amtrack train from Fresno to Hanford and then Hanford back to Fresno. All the pups did great. The best part was when we were in Hanford we got to go eat ice cream. While we were eating ice cream my group sang Happy Birthday to me. After ice cream we went to a park where we did some doggy obedience games. Medford and I won the game of simmon says. All the puppies slept on the train back to Fresno. After the train trip Medford and I drove home to Bakersfield for the weekend. Medford was excited to see and get to play with Lobo.

evaluation/mountain trip

Yesterday our adviser came down to fresno to do evaluations on the dogs. Medford was the first one, and got a great review. Our adviser said he seems like a great dog. We do have some things to work on though. I have to work on him allowing me to do puppy handling better(mainly his feet), him not choking or spiting his food out when I am doing the food protacall with him, and being loose more in my appartment. My dad had come down that morning so after medford's evaluation we headed to the mountains. We stoped at shaver and Hunington lakes. Medford had a great time walking and playing in the lake. He was well behaved on the trip, and crashed once we got back to my appartment.

Kern county fair

This past weekend Medford and I headed to Bakersfield to watch my sister show her steer in the Kern County Fair. Medford did great. He slept through the whole show, and when we were waiting for my sister to get her steer ready he just layed down and watched. He also got to meet my sister's friend's lambs. He thought they were cool. At one point he started giving the lambs kisses. Medford was excelent walking around and not getting distracted. His only problem was he kept wanting to eating the grass. After 4 days at the fair he was worn out.

Medford's first day of summer school

Well this is some what late, but last wednesday I took Medford to summer school. He was a really good boy. First he had to drive 35 min from bakersfield to delano where I am taking a summer government class to get it out of the way. When we got there i let him relieve and went into class where he got to sleep. He wasn't to happy since the classroom was so hot and there was no ac. He layed there for the first 1.5 hrs before the fire alarm went off. After that we had a 20min break where he got to get attention from classmates. Then it was back to class for another 1.5hrs. He was good the whole time, but he was happy when we got home. Hoping to start taking him every monday to help him start getting ready for when fall semester starts.

First Evaluation

Today Medford and I met with our adviser Jim for his first evaluation. Medford did pretty good his main issue was he kept getting distracted. Jim said that since he is a golden he is automatically getting put on a food recall to help him focuss. Don't think Medford will mind. His potty issue is doing better with him on medication. Jim does not want him on a halti yet since he is "slugish" when he walks and feels putting a halti on would shut him down right now. Hopefully with the food recall he will get focussed and motivated. Over all though Medford was a good boy.

A weekend full of firsts

This past weekend I was able to go home and see Medford. He is healthy now so he got to do a lot of firsts with me. He got to go to the puppy truck for the first time, since he didn't come off of the truck. He got to see one of the dogs in our group Stanton leave to go for formal training, and the raisers got a new puppy. They got a male black lab named Eaton. Medford also got to see my last puppy i raised get off the truck since she was career changed. She is now living with my Bakersfield leader. He did very well at the truck. He then went to Jonny Rockets for his second time. He went under the table and slept till we left. On Sunday he had a few other firsts. He went to the store for a quick trip. Medford also went to his first movie. As soon as we walked in people asked if they could pet him and take pictures of him. We saw the Last Song. He was very good. He made everyone laugh when in the movie Miley started singing he let out a big moan for everyone to hear. Medford is continuing to grow and at 13 weeks already is in a medium jacket.

Medford update

Well my parents say Medford is doing good. He is very playful and is getting along with our other two dogs. My dad has nicknamed him keeper. He says that he is so cute that if he fails that we are keeping him, and that is coming from the person who said he didn't want anymore pets. Sadly Medford's soft stools have returned. We are switching him over to iams low residue food for now till he gets better and will go from there. Hopefully he gets better soon.

Well after spending a week with my leader in Fresno Medford is now headed to Bakersfield, CA. He will stay there with my parents till this semester of school is out, since this year I am in the dorms. My leader said that her Golden that she is raising fell in love with Medford. So this past Saturday I picked Medford up at the meeting from my leader and drove the 2hr drive to Bakersfield. He was a good boy and slept the whole way. Once we got home Medford got to run around with my career changed Lobo. After running around my mom and I took him out for the first time to a restaurant. He went to Jonny Rockets he was a good boy and slept most of the time. Sunday he spent a lot of time bonding with my dad. I just left him today, and I was told he was unhappy that I left him.

sick puppy

Well i have now had Medford for a week. A few days after I got him he had to get puppy sat. When he returned we found out that he had loose stools. It has now been a couple days and he still has loose stools. My leader in Fresno has him now for a week and is taking him to the vet today. Hopefully we will get this problem resolved so that he will start sleeping through the nights.

Meet Medford

Well this past Saturday I picked up my new puppy. His name is Medford. Medford is one of Fame's puppies. Fame is the breeder dog that Captain Sully and his family have. Medford weighs 20.5 ib at 9 weeks old. He was a good boy, and slept the whole way home from picking him up. He kept me up most of the night as expected. Medford has decided that even though he keeps getting into trouble for it he likes to lay on my mom's coffee table. He is a cuddly boy, and I can't wait to watch him grow up.

Puppy News

Yesterday I received a call asking if I would be interested in getting a cross (3/4 golden 1/4 lab) to raise for Guide Dogs for the Blind. After making arangements it was decided I would drive up with my leader to meet her daughter half way to receive my puppy on March 27. As of now all I know is the puppy is a male cross not neutered and the name starts with the letter M. My leader will be watching the puppy for a week after I get back from spring break. After that my parents will watch it in Bakersfield till I get done with this semester of college. After that I am in charge of the puppy. I will be raising it while living in an appartment and going to college. This will be very interesting to see how it goes.
